#SOL16: ROME!

Where does writing inspiration come from?  Today it came from this quote in my inbox from my sister via the priest leading our trip to Rome at the end of August for the canonization of Mother Teresa. To learn more about Mother Teresa, you can check out this link.

Mother Teresa

What does this quote mean to you?

If you are reading closely you do notice the difference between the bold words and the italics. I have a couple weeks YET to learn more about Mother Teresa before joining about two million friends at the Vatican for the celebration!

What should we plan to see besides our tours?

My research is starting with these top 10 FREE things to do and see in Rome.  I’m not buying a book – a real paper book at this stage.  I’m sure that I will download something about Vatican City and the churches in Rome.  Our guides will be amazing but I also like to have some background information to fully appreciate the historical significance!

And in the meantime,

it’s back to packing

for a trip to Rome

with:

Mom,

Two younger brothers,

One younger sister,

An aunt and uncle (Mom’s brother!)

A trip of a lifetime!

Thanks, Mom!

  1. What a time to be in Rome! Write about it!!! I will be looking for your pieces on this trip, either Tuesdays or in March 🙂

    1. Thanks, Fran! Already planning and plotting how I will be slicing the two traveling Tuesdays! The family time plus the travel time will be so much fun! Can’t wait to see what new and old stories emerge!

  2. Rome is absolutely amazing, there is so much to see and do there.. Enjoy it 🙂

    1. Just 10 minutes online had me totally convinced! 🙂

  3. What a great opportunity. Your trip is going to be wonderful. I’m sure your trip will provide you with much inspiration for writing!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! It’s harder every year to spend time together so to have 4 of us siblings together with Mom will be a treat! ❤

  4. Oh, I bet that trip will provide a lot of inspiration for future Slices. Have a wonderful trip.

    1. Adrienne,
Yes, I’m anticipating that pictures and descriptions will be one part and then our funny stories will be another part!!!

  5. How exciting! Enjoy your trip and time with family Fran.

    1. Thanks, Lisa!
Yes, so much fun for all of us!!!

  6. How special, Fran! Italy alone will be amazing; witnessing the canonization of our beloved Mother Teresa is sure to be the highlight of your trip. I was just reading an article by a bishop from DC who included her gentle command to him, “Don’t just give them food, give them your heart. Risk your heart.” Those words changed his ministry. All the best to you and your family for a safe and memorable trip!

    1. That is so neat, Laurie! Thanks for that additional information. There is so much information available about her life and how she lived it.

  7. thats great! i would love to go to rome!! so much history.

    1. I’m really looking forward to the “stuff” that’s ALL older than me!!! LOL! I saw the sign to “Rome, Iowa” the other day . . . It just did NOT have the same ring to it!!!

  8. Your trip sounds so exciting! And I think it’s great that you’re spending it with family. I can’t wait to see what you share when you return.

    1. Amy,
Originally the timing sounded like it would totally rule out the trip, but it’s not only possible it’s going to be great fun! Can’t wait to see where all our adventures take us!

  9. What an opportunity. To be with your family in this city at this time. I’m so excited for you Fran!

    1. Julieanne,
Just to have a real spin on “positivity” to start the year! It will be great fun! I think #TC in Rome has a nice ring for a future institute!

  10. Wow, Fran! How amazing! I’m so happy for you and your family — to be able to attend this important event! Wow, just Wow! I definitely want to hear more about this later!

    1. I can’t even imagine . . . Will you be in Atlanta for NCTE? Maybe I can have a mini-travelogue social session!

  11. What a great family trip! You get to combine a great location, a special event, and family time. I LOVE Rome (even the subways that are way too crowded). You will have a blast!

    1. Wow! I had no picture of Rome with subways in my brain! Such smart traveling friends with wonderful tips for me!

Yes, I do have it all – family, location, event!!!

      Excitement is building!

  12. It sounds like you’re going to have an amazing trip! How lucky that you’re able to travel with your family. I love those wise words from Mother Teresa and will carry them with me today.

    1. I have been learning a lot about Mother Teresa (but also saving some learning for the trip)! Such wisdom!

And oh, yes! Traveling with parents and / or siblings as an adult. Totally different than the view from the short seats as a child! Can’t wait! ❤
