I’m sure I’ve seen that message a trillion times.
Hyperbole?
NO!
Connected. No internet.
If you live in a town, city, or have access to quality internet, this message may be foreign to you.
If you live in a rural area or one with spotty internet service, this message may be very familiar.
How familiar?
To reach a trillion times in one year, that would be 2,739,726 times per day.
Okay . . . so maybe not exactly a trillion.
BUT, today, I counted 51 times. And that was in the first eight hours. So if that was the average per day occurrence, the total for one year would be 18,156 times per year. Take that times the 20 years of the internet would result in 363,120 messages. Not a trillion.
BUT, when I’m waiting. . . it sure feels like the message pops up multiple times every hour.
What annoying thing occurs frequently enough that it causes frustration? What does the data say about the frequency? Is it REALLY a major problem?

Thank you, Two Writing Teachers, for this weekly forum. Check out the writers and readers here.
I hear you, Fran. I get that too and also the more ominous one: “Your site is not secure! Go back to safety!”
That would be #2 in complaints for sure!
I complain about my internet and then I remember where I am.
Reliable internet seems like an easy request … until it isn’t!
Definitely frustrating! I get the same message usually when I am running late and need to print off something before I leave the house. I know, I could have gotten things together the night before, but I usually don’t.
Always when it is something “quick.” Still frustrating!
I like how you “do the math” and admit that you might have indulged in hyperbole- but not much! A relative just got a job working on internet access inequities. Covid sure got us thinking about access as a justice issue. Your post lets us in on your experience where you live.

Thanks, Fran.
Love a little exaggeration. Good to remember the facts as well.
Access to quality, uninterrupted internet is still a concern.
By including the numbers in a day and then over time, makes your slice more powerful. I was exploring a song that deals with numbers today so your piece connected with me – Season of Love from Rent. I plan to pair it with Jacqueline Woodson’s picture bookfor w Week 1 lesson. Knowing I have 525,600 minutes in a year gives me hope that I will accomplish something as I begin another year. https://padlet.com/sally_donnelly/mxexd6l27dv92dre
I love it. A plethora of time. 525,600 minutes. The world is within your reach!
Yes, Fran, you made a valid complaint. While we were in the countryside this weekend for our anniversary, I had the darndest time trying to get service. Patience is a virtue so stock up on your be patient inspirational quotes!
Some days it is easier to hold onto my #OLW patience. BUT not every day!
